i'm looking forward to moving into my new apartment next week! yay! there is a bus stop across the street which takes me downtown! i can't wait to get back on a bus! i hate cars!!!! i do not feel safe in cars. i always feel so safe on the bus.

i am going to miss crossing the mississippi river on a daily basis. all the warm rich autumn colours hugging the mississippi at her every curve .. i will miss the mississippi covered in a sheet of ice. watching the steam rise above her on a cold winters morning.

complete and utter chaos! christ! so, i'm running like a mad woman to my bus stop after work today. i mean i'm literally running over little kids in strollers and knocking down old ladies. i MUST catch my bus! i've missed the 3:00 bus every day this week! i make it to where my bus stop is only to find a bus puling out. "was that the __?" i ask some woman. "no." ahhhhhh! thank you, god! so, i'm all happy that i didn't miss my bus! then about five minutes later i'm asking myself "just where in hell IS my bus??" christ! these drivers are on their own schedule -and i think it's about time they share that schedule with the rest of us! finally, the bus shows up. everyone and their grandmother decides to take my bus this afternoon! i had some stinky guy sit next to me. i was about to open my purse and hand him my deodorant! we usually get into downtown st. paul a little before 3:30 ..not today! today we were stuck in traffic at 3:30 -and of course that's only because today i had errands to run downtown. once downtown i run over to the store to pick up Giuseppe some timothy hay. and of course the ONE time someone else is in that store (it's always empty -i often wonder how this guy stays open) she's ahead of me in line and feels the need to stand there and chat with the owner!! fucks sake lady pay and go pay and GO!! i come out of the store only to see the bus i wanted to catch home drive past me! well, it's rush hour and another should be by any minute ..yeah, right! a 21A finally pulls up and it's almost empty!!! yeah! my luck is changing! :) we get to the next stop and wouldn't you know it some wheelchair needs to get on. this is always fun! the freaking lifts take forever and a day to operate! so, the guy gets on and wheels over to where he's supposed to be buckled in only to find out that some of the safety belts are missing!!! normally he'd just go over to the other wheelchair seat -but, there's a woman in a wheelchair in that one! so, the driver has to let him off!!!!! good god! in the meantime there is a huge line outside. the driver finally lets all the other people on and then as were about to go the f'n door wont close because the lift is all screwed up!!!! so, were sitting there in a no a/c bus and the driver is messing around with the lift and lo and behold ANOTHER 21A pass' us by!!!!!!!!! mother of god! while this is going on people are shouting at the bus driver in spanish!!! after about 5 minutes of this the driver realizes "hay, maybe i should shut down the bus and then re-start it!" brilliant! and were off! and were stuck in traffic! once we get up to the cathedral the driver lets off the people in the front of the bus and then drives off before letting off the passengers in the back of the bus (the green light never went on so they couldn't open the door)!!!! again, more yelling at the driver in spanish -and english too!!! he stops the bus and lets off the people in the back. two stops later i'm off!
i got on my first bus at 3:05 and didn't get home until 4:26!! usually if i make the 3:00 bus i'm home by 3:45 at the VERY latest!
needless to say i was quite glad to be home!

while waiting for a bus today, i witnessed something that horrified me. a young mother got up from the bench she was sitting at, left her stroller -with her child in it, and went to go make a phone call (with her friends). she just got up and LEFT her child in the stroller, and made her phone call!!!! she had her back to her child for over 5 minutes!!!!!!! her friends were not paying attention to her child either -they were with her (about 100 feet from her child)!!!
WTF?????????

why is it i only fall asleep on the bus if it's sunny out??? seriously. if it's a sunny day out and i'm on the bus -it doesn't matter if i'm heading to work or coming home from work, i'll fall asleep. i'm out like a light!
rainy days on the other hand .....i'm wide awake. i may be daydreaming as i stare out the window, but i'm awake.
it's been raining all day (well, actually for the last four days) and as i watch others on the bus nod off i notice just how awake i am. yet, just an hour or so ago i was at work yawning! go figure.
this guy sitting next to me was sound asleep, his head kept on falling towards my shoulders! *lol* i didn't mind though. god knows i can relate! he woke up as we approached downtown (and people started ringing the bell and getting out of their seats) and looked around. "sorry." he muttered. i just smiled. "it's okay." "was i snoring?" he asked with a tinge of embarrassment. i shook my head as i said "no." and started laughing. "i'm always worried about that too!"

so i am on the bus this afternoon heading to midway to (*crosses fingers*) get some care fresh litter for you know who! a few stops after i get on a man in his 50's gets on. he's native american and has skin like leather. he's drunk. he has to ask the driver to wait until he's seated before driving again. he looks around. he doesn't know where to sit. there a pleanty of seats left. the driver points to a seat. "you mean sit next to fat ass over here?" what? that's when fat ass (who btw is NOT fat) tells him to sit his "drunk ass" down! about five minutes after this exchange drunk ass looks around and asks if we're going downtown! people suddenly start smiling. he asks again where this bus is heading. this time someone tells him (to uptown -minneapolis). now he wants to know how he can get to downtown (st. paul)! you have to cross the street and take the 21 heading the other direction, someone tells him. now he wants to know how to get off the bus! uh, pull the string! someone pulls it for him. meanwhile, there are lots of big grins on faces in the front of the bus! as he goes to get off the bus, he asks the driver how to get to downtown. cross the street and take the 21 heading the other direction. he finally exits the bus. i look over at the guy who was giving him directions on how to cross the street, we just exchange looks of disbelief!
i don't know what botherd me more about drunk ass, the fact that he could get on a bus and insult a total stranger or how he got to that point. is life that rough for him? has he lost all compassion? what kind of life has he led that leaves him numb to others? where he can just insult and cause pain at will. it's like you get to the point where actions like that start to become a part of your everyday life. you don't realize what you're saying -the words just flow out of your mouth.
what do you think?
oh, btw -they were out of care fresh (again)!

i'm on the bus heading from work to downtown st. paul. it's turning out to be a nice day after all. the sun is shining and the sky is a mixture of dark grey and bright white clouds. the hues of blue that dominate the sky are a cross between cyan and this very intense deep blue. as we cross the mississippi and head towards the airport i start paying attention to the girl on her cell phone accross from me -i'm in the very back of the bus in the asile facing seats. she's trying to get a loan. for what? a car i think. she's twenty. lives at home with her mom. works full time. doesn't have any credit history. after being on the phone with the loan woman she calls her friend (?) to give her the scoop. but, i miss the scoop. because that's when pushy woman gets on the bus! first off let me discribe pushy woman. she's white. really? a pushy white woman, hmm you don't say. hold on let me go get a pencil and piece of paper, i should write this down ...."pushy white woman" okay, i know, i know, back to the story before i offend someone.
so this pushy woman: i see her on the bus all the time. she gets on downtown in st. paul on 6th and st. peter. she's in her mid 50's (i'm guessing here), brown hair, glasses, blah, blah, blah. what i notice about her most is how -yup, you guessed it, pushy she is! she's kinda rude too. oh, really? rude and pushy, noooo! (okay, i promise that's it for now!) she always takes up two seats! she sits down on the seat closest to the asile and puts her big handbag on the seat closest to the window, then she proceeds to read the paper, thus giving a deceptive apperience of not having any room for others to sit down (you know like she's got something large or important taking up the extra seat she's hogging. grrr! and whenever someone asks to sit down she always goes out of her way to take her sweet old time gathring up her belongings. not only that but she acts like they are putting her out of her way, like it's such a hassle for her to move her stuff to her lap! and to top it off she'll still read the paper -which will be hitting the other person in the face at times! ugh.
back to today. so this woman gets on the bus and notices that she will have to sit with someone. mistake #1 -she comes to the back of the bus! mistake #2 -she picks up some girls belongings and asks "are these yours?" and then proceeds to move them!!!! what a bitch! the girl was in shock too. she was being nice at first, telling her "i'll move those." then she just took her stuff and moved back by me! she did manage to call her a bitch! yeah! you go! and then had more choice words for her! telling everyone how rude she was. uh, those of us who ride this bus on a daily basis already know that! i thought it was nice of this girl to move for her. she didn't have to, and she didn't deserve to have her belongings picked up by this pushy white woman!
why are people so rude sometimes? you know, it's not like you're in your car! it's a public bus for gods sake! when the bus starts filling up put your belongings on your lap so those getting on can have a seat. is that really that hard to do?

i'm on the 21 heading downtown, daydreaming as i look out the window ...just your typical morning commute. as we pull up to the rice park stop downtown (st. paul) i hear a lite thud as this guy stands up to get off the bus. i look down and notice that his wallet has fallen out of his pocket! i'm like "um, sir you dropped......." he exits the bus before i can finish my sentence! damn! i nudge the guy next to me and tell him to get him as i go and pick up this mans wallet. so the guy yells "SIR, YOU DROPPED YOUR WALLET!" i run off the bus and hand him his wallet! he looks aimlessly at me and mutters "thank you" in disbielf as i gaze at him speechless -trying to imagine if it were my wallet that just fell out of my purse! i get back on the bus ......
